The Origins of ‘Knock Knock’ Joke

Posted by

I think it is fair to say we have all said or heard a knock knock joke. ┬áSometimes funny and sometimes they aren’t.

But have you ever wondered where the joke originally comes from?

Well, it comes from the Shakespearean era, in his play Macbeth, in which a porter is awakened by a man knocking at the door and he asks ‘who is there’.

Now, although that’s the base of it, it wasn’t until 1936, when a Radio Presenter launched various jokes across the nation on air which led to a craze of the ‘Knock Knocks’.

Who could have thought that this is backdated to Shakespeare? It’s crazy!
