Surgeons operate on Gwynedd crash cyclist fighting for his life in Stoke hospital

Surgeons have operated on a teenage cyclist who is fighting for his life after crashing in an horrific accident.

Connor Jones, 17, from Mynytho, Gwynedd is critically ill in a specialist trauma unit after he collided with a wall near his home last week.

Doctors have been trying to reduce a swelling on his brain and carried out a procedure this morning.

His family have been continually at his bedside since he was airlifted to the hospital in Stoke last Wednesday.

Connor’s uncle Paul Tyrrell told the Daily Post: “He’s in a serious and critical condition.

‘It’s just about the next 48 hours’

“He had another operation this morning to reduce the swelling.

“It’s just about the next 48 hours. If he can stay stable then it’s a positive sign. We’ll keep praying.”

A hospital spokesman confirmed Connor’s condition remained “critical”.

The 17-year-old engineering student at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor in Dolgellau had been cycling on an unclassified road between Mynytho and Abersoch and came off his bike near the Rhandir Caravan Park.

Paramedics were alerted and the air ambulance scrambled just before 5pm.

The incident has shocked the village of Mynytho and the Parciau housing estate where Connor lives with his mum Anne.

Writing on Facebook friends and neighbours continue to post get well messages to Connor and express their support for the family.
