Plan for new Llangefni Lidl store, which will create 20 new jobs, given the go-ahead

Bosses at a German-owned supermarket chain have won planning permission to open a new store just yards from their existing outlet.

Council planners have given the green light for Lidl to build the store in Llangefni on the site of the former Ysgol y Graig primary school, which shut in 2009 with pupils moving to a brand new building.

The firm says it now plans to redevelop the site on the town’s Industrial Estate which stands opposite its current store, including 150 car parking spaces.

The 1,423sqm development will create around 20 new jobs in addition to the 11 currently employed at the existing store. This is in addition to those employed to construct the facility.

Lidl UK’s regional head of property, Stuart Jardine, said: “We are delighted that Anglesey County Council have decided to approve the application alongside the planning officer’s recommendation.

“We are extremely excited about opening a more modern store here, improving shopping choice locally and creating further local jobs.

“We look forward to welcoming our local customers to the new store once it is completed.”

The store will also have an in-store bakery and longer-style tills with dual packing facilities, but the existing Lidl will remain open until the new development has been completed.
