Major Colwyn Bay helicopter search after fully-clothed man seen wading in sea

A major search was launched after concerns for a man’s safety in the water in Colwyn Bay over the weekend.

Llandudno RNLI were called out on Saturday after a report that a man who had been seen drinking on Colwyn Bay’s beach had walked into the sea but had apparently not returned to shore.

A crew launched from Llandudno’s north shore were they searched in the waters while coast guards carried out a shoreline search.

The Coastguard SAR helicopter later joined in the search, but in the end nothing relevant had been found and Holyhead Coastguard stood down all the participating units at 3.35 p.m.

The original report has since been categorised as a false alarm made with good intent.

By 4.30 p.m. the lifeboat had returned to her station and been made ready for further service.
