Here are the top comments of the week (Friday-Friday) from the Daily Post website.

The best comments were collated from comment section at the end of each article.

1. Llandudno’s Victorian Extravaganza

One of the main talking points this week has been the reaction to the annual Victorian Extravaganza in Llandudno.

Thousands of people enjoyed the three-day event in the town, but not everyone was happy.

Morgan Austin, who owns Johnny Dough’s Pizzas , said he was £4,000 down on takings because of the festival.

FatAndy commented at the bottom of the article: “The Extravaganza has massively lost its way over the years. It either needs to be scrapped or it need to scale down, dump the funfair, and go back to its roots. There’s nothing remotely Victorian about dodgem cars, Hook-a-Duck stalls and burger vans.

“Colwyn Bay has a 1940s Festival which does exactly what it says on the tin. The organisers of the Extravaganza need to get over to Colwyn Bay in a couple of weeks time and learn how to properly organise and run a themed event. Here’s a hint there should be zero funfair rides!”

2. Bikers accused of turning North Wales road into Isle of Man TT race

Bikers who modify exhausts on their motorbikes to make them louder have been warned North Wales’ roads are “not part of the Isle of Man TT.”

Llangollen county councillor Stuart Davies said he has received complaints from residents about the noise made by bikers coming from the Horsehoe Pass into the town.

Zzr gaz commented at the bottom of the article: “As a biker my self who visits various parts of beautiful North Wales and some one who likes to ride responsibly and taking into consideration other road users. I agree a very small majority of bikers gives the rest a bad name as they ride around North Wales I see it my self many times and shudder.

“But also along with bikers we share the road with cars etc to which many aren’t driven with in the law but they never seem to get a mention? It’s always the bad bikers. The police should apply the law to all not just the guys with helmets.”

3. Get well soon Aaron Lennon

Everton and the Professional Footballers’ Association have pledged their support to Aaron Lennon after the winger was detained under the Mental Health Act amid concerns for his welfare.

evertonfan commented at the bottom of the article: “Sorry to hear about Aaron, keep your chin up mate. I’ve been through it all and come out other side, if I can then so can you. Stay strong.”

4. Rare orchid chopped down by council gardeners

Bungling council gardeners have cut down a rare orchid that had been blossoming in Conwy for the last four years.

Retired geologist Jeff Walters had been photographing the heath spotted orchid for years and was “devastated” when it disappeared this week.

Evertoneddy commented at the bottom of the article: “We all make mistakes and this would appear to be one, to be fair the flower beds etc, are normally very colourful and cared for so one plant will not make much difference, but it is a shame the orchid has gone.”

5. An age limit for councillors

An age limit of 70 years should be imposed for councillors at county council level according to a prominent councillor, as she believes some aren’t up to the job because of their age.

Linda Groom who had been a county councillor in Penrhyn Bay for 22 years, believes there are too many councillors – 17 out of 59 in the outgoing council serving Conwy Council – who are over the age of 70.

MistarUrdd commented at the bottom of the article: “It’s too simplistic to put age barriers on serving your community. There are some 70/80 year old councillors who are more active day to day in their communities than a 20/30 something party faithful who only turns up in their ward every four years.

“What we need is to reduce barriers to everyone who wants to be a councillor – especially those who’d make great representatives but can’t afford for their family’s sake etc. Instead of having lots of different special allowances for particular roles, how about having a raised flat-rate allowance which matches the national average wage or something?”

6. Horse shot dead in Flintshire

An investigation has been launched after a horse was found shot dead in what police described as a “truly awful crime”.

Yevgeni commented at the bottom of the article: “Difficult to believe sometimes how sick are some people out there – just depressing.”

7. The six ways smoking will change this month

This month sees the introduction of new smoking and tobacco laws that will change the habit forever.

Smokers have already started seeing major changes to the branding of their favourite products.

Steamnut commented at the bottom of the article: “The minimum pack size of 20 is not going to work with the youngsters as they will just pool their money and buy a packet which they will split later.”

8. Messages of support for Gwynedd crash cyclist

Daily Post readers have offered messages of support for cyclist Connor Jones after he was involved in an accident.

Cheryl2 commented at the bottom of the article: “Hope and pray this is a happy ending story for Connor, and he makes a full recovery. Thinking of him and his family, hope they all have the strength to get through this very difficult time.”
